Outstanding Results for Dio at Secondary Schools Ski Championships
On Thursday 11 June, eight Dio students headed to the College Sport Auckland Secondary Schools Ski Championships at Snowplanet.

The first event of the day was the race category in which girls have two timed runs down the slalom courses with both times added to create a cumulative time.

Coco Bayley (Year 10) achieved an outstanding silver medal in the Junior Girls Race, with many other strong performances from the Dio team, including Alysia Siatras (Year 9) just 0.01 seconds outside of the medals in 4th place, and Sia Zhang (Year 8) placing 7th in the Junior Girls race, qualifying themselves for the Championship Dual.

The next event was the dual category where girls compete side-by-side against another student on identical slalom courses, with the winners returning up the slope to race again until the quickest remains.

The top 16 girls from the race went into the Championship category, which included Coco Bayley, Alysia Siatras and Sia Zhang, with the remaining students going into the Plate category.

With some very tight racing, Dio had both Freya Maclean (Year 10) and Stephanie Watt (Year 8) in the Plate final, resulting in a Gold medal for Freya and Silver medal for Stephanie, both outstanding achievements.

Flossie Kirkpatrick (Year 8), Lily Vonn Southcombe (Year 8), Maggie Kirkpatrick (Year 10) also placed strongly in all competitions with everyone’s individual points coming together to achieve 2nd in the Overall Girls School competition.
